Ok so I ran across this yesterday when I was picking parts. I'm thinking it may have been industrial but not sure. So what the crap is it.

gas heater

I kind of figured. Was it for industrial or was it actually installed in a Beetle/Bus?

67/68 beetles (maybe 66 too?).
I don't see the air pump or the control box though, not quite complete.

Looks like the one that fits under the rear parcel tray of a beetle. Then it utilizes the factory heater connections under the back seat.

Type 4 uses a larger version made by Eberspacher, it's called a BA-4, both are heat boosters opposed to free standing heaters, they mount inline between the engine heater outlets and the body and add heat to the cooling fan's airflow.

That really does look like a little brother to the BA-4 in the type 4 (411 and 412) cars.

I have been trying to figure its BTU output. its cool!

For size reference....the BA-4 puts out 13,483 BTU and the BA-6 in the bus puts out 23,794 BTU.

I am surprised there is no output listed on the plate....unless the part number/name (1502)....is partly an output identifier. Since its usually in Kilocal's...that would put it at 5,956 BTU...which iss probably about right for its size.
Interesting. Ray

I have always liked these , mainly because they are out of sight and maybe it seems a safer location, but have never tinkered with one. This type also seem really rare , so getting parts to get running could be a hassle.Where are you and guestimate on shipping to cali? I could work something out with you. Pm me if you like. Thanks
