71's have 2 felts on each door. I have replaced the drivers' door with a "72. The inside flet is the same but there are no holes to mount the outside felt and it's extreemly dificult to drill them down inside the window channel. Has anyone ever glued this one on? Any other suggestions? Thanks, Patty

The 72 door is a bad mix with the 71

The window scrapers are different. The 71 and older doors all use a style that doesn't work with the 72-74 doors.

You can see what I mean if you look at the door. On the space in the door where the window rolls into...the top of the door. There is a lip that the scraper moulding sits on. The pre 72 doors have this strip attached from the inside of the gap where the window goes. The 72-74 doors, this lip is created with the skin from the outside of the door. This is tough to describe....let me go take some pics

The long and short is, that you will have to use a 72-74 window scraper which will not match the chrome of the other door, and it won't flow nicely into the chrome below the quarter windows.

The 72 door never had a second felt, it has rubber glass buffers. They stop the glass from rattling. The window scraper fit the door differently so the second felt wasn't needed.

I suppose you could glue the felt in with an epoxy or JB weld.

I'm not worried about the scrapers because there is an identical shelf in the door skin below that lip that if I drill the holes in it like the '71, the trim and scraper from the '71 should fit the same. Only the holes below that lip on the inside wall of the outer door are diferent (I think).

Nope,
Won't work as you want it to. Don't drill the holes. Measure the space of the two "shelves" and you will see the difference. You won't get the 71 style chrome and rubber on the 72. You would need to cut the lip off the 72 door and then you might get it to work, but there would be no lip for the moulding then. The 71 door lip is also closer to the glassthen the 72. So even if you ground and cut your 71 chrome and rubber it would still sit away from the glass on the 72 door. If the 72 door is on the car and painted, I would get the 72-74 scraper. If its not, either get a 68-71 door or start modding stuff to make it work.

70 140, How right you are! Looks like I will be fixing the original door after all. At least I Got a good regulator, glass and hinges out of the deal. The '72 door will make a good loner wile I'm working on the other one. Thanks for all your help. :D Patty

No problem,
Its better to find things out early in the game before stuff gets painted or botched up.
