View original topic: Battery to voltage regulator connection

The positive battery cable I just got from California Imports for my '66 has a voltage regulator lead ("for 52-79 bus" -it says).

I can't find this hook-up in any wiring diagram - it goes to the solenoid first.

Is there an advantage to doing this (better flow?).
If so should I leave the wire to the solenoid in place?

thanks - Richard

The new regulator wire on your new battery cable is not needed. Leave the regulator connected to the solenoid. The cable is a universal cable and some later cars (notably 60's-70's GM's) all had a separate regulator wire coming direct from the battery. So now almost all the cables include it.

You can either cut it off or save it to run some future accessory that needs direct battery power. If you use it for that be sure to put a fuse in the line or you'll have a dandy electrical fire if it ever shorts out. If you cut it off be sure to cut it at the battery connector so there is nothing left sticking out to short out to something.
