Post the VIN that's on the tunnel under the rear seat. If it is a '71 the first three digits will be 111 |

68 -70 as it doesn't appear to have the side vents |

'68 had the finger indent on the fuel door. So '69 or '70 body on a later chassis? It also has '66 and earlier headlight buckets.
Edit: Hard to see on my phone, but does it have the access hole in the front apron to remove the shift rod? If not changing that bushing, which it will need based on the looks of the rest of the car, should be a fun task. |

Didn't the marathon wheels only come on one year beetle for some anniversary edition? But after 40-ish years, they may not be the original wheels to this car.
Enjoy the build :D |

definitely a '69 or '70 body with early 6v style fenders. 4 lug wheels, assuming the suspension hasn't been changed means it's a '69+ or '68 auto stick chassis.
Either way, looks like a great candidate to become a baja bug :D |

Does it have a Mercedes Benz emblem on the grille? |

I'm betting it's a 70. What are your plans for it? Looks to have some pretty gnarly front end damage. Bent beam and possibly frame head. Good parts car or full caged baja. |

so checked the vin on the tunnel it is a 71 pan.. as the body is so shot. would i be able to swap the body from another bug. if so what years fit or would bolt up. if it seems to hard i might just end up parting it out. thanks for all the replys and help |

also someone mentioned that it has 4 lug wheels. does that pertain to 71 or did the original owner change suspension on it. this car has me really confused. seems everything was changed around |

Pretty sure most year body's will swap over. The 4 lug is the suspension used from 1968 heading forward. Also the red car looks to be a citicar. |
