There was a great question raised recently regarding identifying correct hubcaps. This got me thinking about my car and that this might make a good addition to the technical information section.
How can I identify the correct hubcaps for a 70 Fastback?
Thanks |

On the four lug front disc brake cars, beginning 1. August 1965 for the 1966 model year, there are only two types- the 1966-67 Type 3 only type with the raised center as shown by Everett, and your basic garden variety hubcap shared with Type 1, 2, and 4 for 1968-73.
Wheels were black from 1966-69, and silver from 1970-73.
Accessory trim rings are Type 3 only due to the different offset from Type 1. Type 1 trim rings will fit but are technically not correct.
VW dealers in USA also offered an accessory Wolfsburg Crest "Riviera" full wheel cover that was not type specific. |

Resurrecting an old thread here. So I just picked up these 4 yesterday at the Florida Bug Jam. So are they original T-3 hubcaps from '66 or something repop?
I cleaned them up a little bit and already put them on.
Thanks, Doug

Those look like ‘68 -‘73 hubcaps. ‘66-‘67 hubcaps have a lip . Little bit thicker than ‘61-‘65 hubcaps. As the rims use no clips. |

On 66/67 Type 1 yes, a lip. On Type 3, no. Type 3 started with 4 lug and front discs in August 1965 for the 66 model year. The 66/7 Type 3 hubcaps look like the standard 4 lug but with the raised center logo. The ones Doug found are correct originals. Nice find- these are getting tough :D ! |
