View original topic: Front Suspension Help from Thailand

I find myself in the situation where I'm gonna need to pay someone to rebuild the front suspension on my 91 2WD Westy. My brother in law closed his auto repair business and I have no place to work on my van. Damn.

I bought all the stuff in anticipation of doing the work myself which is now impossible. I have complete bushing kit from Van Cafe, new Anti-sway bar from T3, upper/lower ball joints, etc.

I'm currently in Thailand but will be in the states for six weeks starting OCT. I'll be in Bend, OR. but can range from Sacramento to Portland for the right shop.

I have started a call down list that includes Young's Ol Volks home in Bend, Subagon in Redding and Stephans AutoHous in Sac. That's about it for my knowledge. I've visited Gary at Ol' Volks a few times but he surely must be retired by now...

Man, any recommendations or first hand knowledge would be very much appreciated and gratefully accepted.

You may want to ping Chris at T3. My guess is that he has the most knowledge about shops who do suspension work and can steer you to a few top candidates to consider.

P.s I think you'll like his anti/sway bar. A lot.

Having done this myself. I would think any competent mechanic could do the work. And probably a lot quicker than I took. But if you want nice cleaned up and painted parts, you probably have to DIY

If you wanted to tackle this yourself and you have a wide area available, you might be able to find places that let you rent garage space. In the Sac area I heard of someone in Cameron Park who had a rentable setup. I thought that was a great option, not sure if they are still around.

You do this and you feel like you can tackle any work it needs!

And it looks sweet.

I have my place picked out...

I just did mine last month in a parking lot. Don't know what your local situation is, but it is do-able. I had all the tools available though.

Found this in Bend for month to month rent:

Found this "mancave" in Vancouver, Wa. on craigslist under "office and commercial" space for rent:
