I ran across it searching about IRS trailing arms in the post about a late fastback wearing the tires inner edge.

I found a few things about later engine mounts with the engine hanger bar and body mounts having issues with breaking or rather cracking the sheet metal .

I don't see this on mine and they state the old style mount using the pipe off the fan housing is better.

I would think VW got better and improved over time.

I can see them rusting out .
