It's pretty easy. Give yourself a day and get a friend for moral support and to read the book you are going to buy.

Go to the book store and Buy How to Keep Your Volkwagen Alive for the Complete Idiot by John Muir. It tells you in simple language how to do it and what you need. Or go to Amazon.com right now and get it.

Simple job. I remove my bumper for ease and access. I dunno maybe someone doesn't. Any how 4 17mm bolts, 1 throttle cable, Heater box cables 2 each, wires to the Gen and Reg or Alt. Make sure you have a jack to support it and when everything is removed slide it out. 4-6 hours since its your 1st time. 40-60mins your next time.
