There is that nice piece of chrome that fits over the top of the license plate light. It has two posts that fit into holes in the license plate light fixture. However, I can't figure out how to secure this piece of chrome. There are no threads on the posts that fit into the holes. Any ideas?

You need a couple clamping plates like this or something similar.

I've been using 1" squares of inner-tube with an ice-pick hole in the center.

I've done this, or even pencil erasers.

Yup. Any hardware store should have them, Ace, HomeDepot, Lowes, etc.

Yup, I've even used "speed nuts" from the "HELP" rack at the auto parts store. They're just a thin tin nut that can be removed at a later date. Just take the chrome cover with you, so you can size them correctly.
