How do you lower a '66 Squareback for free? I call the local Volt-Wag shop and they say you can lower it with the stock front end... HOW?

Do a search, it's been covered in detail before.

Yeah, see the post about lowering a Squareback. You could also use the search function, as it does work too. :D

Here is a picture with the passenger side front wheel off... NOW WHAT? You pull out something and push it back in, but WHAT?

Add a couple of bags of cement?? :D J/K :P Seriously, you'll need a Bentley manual to help orient you to the front end parts. If you read the posts in the sticky, you see that the lower trailing arm needs to be re-clocked on the torsion bar. But you need to remove the spindle from the trailing arms. This is why you should have a Bentley first, so you can study what needs to come apart and what needs to be adjusted. After you get it lowered, you'll also need to have an alignment done.

What the heck is wrong with bags of cement???? When I got my first car (Age 16...'65 Square) I put 180lbs worth in the spare tire well. and put real Empi 8 spokes (split rim) up front with those POS W5>4lug adapters that they probably still sell to people that don't know any better. That sucka hugged the road baby! Was'nt too bad if you did'nt mind the smell of burning rubber everytime you turned! Hey, tires were a lot cheaper then too  Good thing too as I had to replace a cut tire every couple weeks :?

i think you can get away w/ removing the tie rod , shock, and lower trailing arm. with teh tire rod and lower arm disconnected you should be able rotate the spindle out of teh way leaving you teh lower arm to adjust.

Ausnotch....Robert Bentley publshes the Official VW sevice manuals. They are considered to be the best. I have every manual that I could find that pertains to my 'dubs. But if you only have one, best to have the Bentley.
