I just got a 411 without a motor. No one seems to know what motor goes into these cars. I'm not sure what year it is or even the overall condition. Except it has sat for a long time and it is suppose to have a good tranny.
Does anyone know what type of motor I will need?
And are parts for the 411 hard to come by?
What is the major differences between the 411 and the 412? |

The 411/412 came with the Type 4 engine. This is the same engine that is in the late busses, Porsche 914, and 75(?) 911E.
411 aftermarket parts are like unobtanium. Most of the stuff will have to come from parts cars. You can still get brake parts, engine parts, and window rubber has just started to be made again (I can't remember who right now). Automatic transmission parts are easier to get than manual parts.
I believe the main difference between the two is body style. I know some mechanical improvements were made and that's why the name was changed to 412.
You can find allmost all the information you need about these cars at www.shoptalkforums.com. They have a 411/412 forum.
Congratulations on your purchase, and welcome to the family. |
