What is (if any) the difference between a Type 1 mechanical Pierburg fuel pump and a Type 3 mechanical Pierburg fuel pump.
Attached are photographs of:
Type 1 Pump (Pierburg Aftermarket Retail) - Left Hand
Type 1 Pump (VW Part) - Centre
Type 3 Pump (VW Part) - Right
Also what is the plastic cover on the Type 3 pump for?
I was thinking of using the Type 3 pump on a Type 1. If need be I can pull all the insides of the Type 3 pump out and replace with new Type 1 parts (if they fit).

I thought it was just the diaphragm that is different in that the type 3 needs different pumping power if you will.
the cap just dresses it up
I'll buy the innards and cap from you if you want to sell them. Send me an IM |

ALL 3 fuel pumps are type 1 and the 2 pumps on my right side
Are replacements. Originals fuel pumps from factory install on engines did
NOT have a extra layer were is Stamp
Stamp VW7 equal 2.8 psi. For single carb
Later model Model Type 3 fuel pump
Stamp VW6 equal 4.2 psi. For duals cabs
Plus rotation top section 1/4 turn clock
Plastic caps (insulation) (protective cap)
are for type 3 Only part # 311 127 195 A
Keeps HOT air away for being a so enclosed area
As we seen how plastic gets the beige color avoid vapor lock

After reading the link from the previous reply I have 3 questions:
1) What is the difference between diaphram part numbers 311 127 141 and 113 127 141.
2) What is the format of the date stamping on the pump lower casting. i.e. 7348
3) The previous reply mentioned that original factory fitted fuel pumps don't have a raised section on the pump lower casting where the date stamp is. Is my interpretation correct. |

All 3 answers are in the thread and with a little observation
1) Diaphragm is SAME but rod in LONGER wish makes the travel up and down deeper and makes the PSI higher and spring is thicker too
2) format Originals Fuel pumps from Factory Engines stamp are first numbers are month last 2 numbers are year
3) Replacements has extra layer covering unknown numbers with NEW numbers that make NO sense Is a Mistery Unsolved |

Remarks Notes that fuel pumps 113 127 025A VW7 as ONLY a replacement and came with Caps
And instruction for Type 3s will make you rotate upper part 60 degrees to right and
And install CAP
But the PSI and Calibration of Diaphragm was NOT
