That red convertible was eventually given a massive infusion of horsepower and road-holding ability...courtesy of a V8 transplant and a full suspension upgrade.

Actually, Mr. Newman owned TWO red Beetle convertibles. The one in the VW brochure had a Porsche 356 or 912 engine to maintain a near-stock external appearance. The second one is the one in the link above with the V8 mid-engine. |

Steve McQueen doesn't need a kick stand. The bike is afraid to fall over. |

Steve Mcqueen was always seen at the off road area around Lake Elsinore on
the week-ends in the 1970's along with his Wife. an avid off road motorcyclist
and a down to earth guy.
We would drive from San Juan Capistrano. highway 74 or as we called it 'Ortega
Highway' to Elsinore on a Saturday to ride and He & his wife were usually there.
Steve Mcqueen was just a kind and life loving person along with how WE perceive stars that really only wanted to give what they could while on this
earth. |

I'm sure Steve was a wonderful guy, obviously had a superior sense of balance and keenly refined racing skills... But not just that, he was also multi-lingual, knowing the two-finger version as well:
