Shame on them for not acknowledging the most popular boxer engine of all time, the VW!

Sure, it's not available new in cars, but damn, 25 million is a big number!

Subaru would have never condoned that- especially since the best use of their engines is in the rebirth of Vanagons. 8)

Some of that was just out and out propaganda (aka bullshit). Example.....there is nothing inherent in the boxer engine configuration....and its "seamless functionality" ....that lends itself any more or less to higher fuel efficiency.....or for that matter.....center of gravity and roll center (unless the chassis is optimized for that fact....which most subaru are not really)..... Technically a Boxer shares a rod journal for the opposing piston. Ferrari flat 12's are boxers. Subarus, VW's and Lancia's and the like are really an opposed engine.

The subau EJ engine is based on the type-1
It's the same size.....because they copied it, didn't even change the major dimensions until very recently.

They've been known to crop up in the occasional outlaw 356 as well.
