View original topic: What rims would you use?
Kombi Tue Mar 30, 2004 11:34 am

Well spring is here again and i'm getting that itch... Do I buy new rims or not? If the square was wide 5 I'd have already made up my mind, but it's a '69 and four bolt.

(Rim pictures from CIP)
We're running stock rims... which I like... but what would you put on it?
If I order in the next 2 days I'll get 10% off... our I'll just wait till the next 'sale' at Cal Imports

BRM 4 lug or 2-liter Porsches. The 8-spoke is too common, and the riviera is ugly.

I would do the 2 litres myself

out of the four picked, i'd go with the 2 litres. If you're open to more suggestions I'm really favoring sprintstars at the moment, I wanted some 5 lug porsche rims but it would be more work than I want right now and some refurbished sprints are nice.

I agree! Except the BRM is getting over-played also. So it's the 2 liter!

I'd go that route but It'll cost me a bit more... If I can keep the price down maybe I can 'Justify' the purchase

IMO, keep your tires on stock wheels for a while, save the money you've got now, and wait until you find something you really like. I think all those wheels are fugly, polished 2 liters or grey spoked BRM's would be the best of the bunch. But thats just my opinion. Don't settle just because it's on sale. Sprintstars are king, there are always a few sets floating around the classifieds for a reasonable price.

Keep what you've got on there for now, and save your money until you can get some Torque Thrust II's for it (you'll need to re-drill your drums and rotors though). Since you really like the 5 spoke design, this is about your only option. I plan on using these on my Roadster 2. just some food for thought.

If you can find em, early original rivies without the raised bump on the spokes are cool. Get em fully polished and stuff. I have set on my square, not quite polished and they look sick when its slammed.

I know where there's a fasty that's ready and perfect for a racing project... Manual, stripped interior, solid, extra body panels, just messed up enough that no one would worry about the morality of not restoring it... if I only had the money. It's a "make offer and take it" car, too. Paul's comments reminded me.
I want the early rivies off of it, though; even if there are only 3 of them.

oh man, your pic wasnt working earlier when I looked at this topic. Now that I see your square I say keep those stock wheels, that looks nice with the black centers and white rims. Don't change a thing!

orr keep saving...

i also really like stock with street rod trim rings added for some bling

Jeffk Wed Mar 31, 2004 4:56 pm

Hey Kombi, havn't seen your square before, looking good. I like your stock look you've got right now. If your at Bug Thaw I'll probably see you there. I'm looking for all sorts of stuff, hopefully there will be a bit of stuff for T3s.

Bobnotch Wed Mar 31, 2004 7:51 pm

Yeah the stock rims look pretty good the way you currently have them. I should have gone that route on my 69 Square, since it looks just like yours (except for the antenna in the rear fender  ). I think it looks good like it does. Maybe you should buy some other stuff instead. 8)

I like the way your car looks. It is kind of original if you keep it like it is because everyone is using one of the four wheels your looking at. I did end up finding a clean set of sprint star wheels here on the samba that are sweet. Try this link maybe you'll get a good price. http://sasha.go-gaia.com/arena/index.php?i=101745
