does anyone know why carbs would back fire? carbs are only 200 miles old, bought 34 webers ict's from empi. My squareback runs like sh__. Feels as if one carb is only working. Also engine is rebuilt 200 miles, wires, coil, gen, carbs, distributor w/electronic ignition are all brand new. Smokes white a little and seems like it's running a little hot. I'm more pissed because it hesitates alot when i'm trying to drive it. Please some one help this is my daily driver and I haven't been using it because of this.

Almost forgot my reverse lights aren't lighting up when put in reverse, don't know where to look. and front end squeaks a lot when stopping. already replaced the shocks and greased the front end but can't determine where it's coming from. :cry:

First, make sure your spark plug wires are in the right order.

Check your timing too.

Are the carbs. set too rich?

On the reverse lights, they get power from the coil and there should be an in-line fuse there. Make sure the fuse is good. If it's getting power, check the bulbs and grounding of the reverse lights.

If they look good, short across the reverse switch on the transmission nosecone and see if the light go on. If so, you know that switch is bad.

Use the wiring diagram here to find the backup light circuit. It could be anything from a bad switch (less likely) to bad wirirng (more likely)

I checked the timing it was fine, the left carb seems to be sputtering. Like it doesn't spray correctly. I think it might be dirty or something. I sprayed carb cleaner in the carb but it still sputters or spits. It feels as if only the right side carb is working. Please someone help I brought it to work like that because that's my only transportation, job is about 15miles away. If anyone can think of something so this weekend I can take apart maybe I can fix it and get it over with. thanks for any help.
