| Brent, I'd contact Martin, as I'm sure he has some used ones laying around. If I remember right, you'll need eith 5 or 7 of them. I hope this helps. |

man,I hear all this talk about 5 and 7 shims needed and out of 16 type 3's owned I don't think I've ever had a car w/more than 3.
I pulled 2 out of the '64 when I pulled the motor and ripped the body off the pan. |

You need however many provide the correct movement of the rear hanger. You are supposed to "use as many synthetic washers as are necessary to raise the engine about 2 to 3 mm. The vehicle must be unladen and standing on a level surface when doing this. It should also be bounced firmly once to even out the suspension." ('65 Type 3 shop manual talk)
My '63 Notch had 5 in there, the engine had only been pulled once by a non-VW person so I'm pretty sure it came with 5 for whatever reason. Sloppy VW tolerances on that car, I guess. |

I don't run a rear doughnut mount on my engine, on a big engine swinging type 3... I would go without the rear mount all together, it will most likely end up tearing the body sheet metal where it mounts, I have seen the sheet metal actually torn in this area on a few type 3's for a stock engine... run the mount... I only remember seeing 3 fiber shims... thou I can't see why 5 or more would be a problem...
