A friend of mine just purchased a '65 "Varient S". It was purchased in Europe and used to tour, shipped to the states, and kept clean and pristine. Only has 87K ORIGINAL miles on it. I know that's a stretch, but the history of the car is there and all parties involved reputable.
It has a 1500cc engine, but I'm not familiar with those flat ones like I am my upright 1600dp.
But what does that "S" stand for? Anyone know?
thanks |

| I don't know what the "S" designation ment, but I do know it consisted of quite a bit of stuff, like a high compression 1500cc engine, dual carbs, upgraded inside trim and interior packages, outside chrome upper trim, and other bits and pieces. |

I'd go with "Sport" since most german cars have the same designations
"S" = Sport
"I" = Fuel Injected
"C" = Coupe
"V" = Varient
"E" = Economy
they have a whole code system with their numbers as well ie.
BMW 635csi = Baverian Motor Works 6 series 3.5ltr coupe sport fuel injected :wink: |

| It seems like I read somewhere about two 1500 engines, one high compression, and one low. Would that be the S? And then there's the SL(?). This stuff will soak into my brain eventually, honest. |

2 different friends of mine are Porsche freaks. I plan to someday be one if this economy would get off it's ass!
E on the older Porsche 911 models = Einspritzung. Deutsch for Injection. |

sorry...forgot to add: S was for Sport in the Porsche world.
I would like to think it carried over to VW since Ferdinand Porsche gave life to the first VW's before moving on to his own thing. |
