Yet another questions from the squareback newbie.

I'm rebuilding the engine out of my 1500s. It's running twin Solex 32 PDSIT's and currently has the stock distributor. Is it worth the time and effort to rebuild the stock dist. or should I just buy a new SVDA unit.

In my opinion, it's worth it to fix the stock one. There is a guy on the Type 3 list that says he can rebuild them - Jim Adney.

Didn't you have a '64? That is a 1 year only distributor.

I do have a 64 but I didn't realize that it was a 1 year only distributor.

What's wrong with it? Frozen? Sloppy?

I don't think the modern "universal" replacements will have the correct advance curve.

That's what I was afraid of. It's not frozen but pretty stiff. I can free it up I'm sure but I'd only want to use it if I can have it rebuilt completely. No point to try tuning the engine if the dist is unpredictable.

Have you tried Glenn Ring? He rebuilds distributors... E-mail him, he might be able to help you.

I did try Glenn actually. He doesn't rebuild vac advance distributors. Too bad though he does really nice work.
