My 1600 kinda self destructed. Fried the bearings, and broke the cam. Anyways im sitting here looking at my Real Source catalog, and they have rebuild kits for performance motors. they have 1641's all the way to a stroked 2176. I want good lower end torque, but I also want to have mid-range HP. I was looking at going a stroker. What are some pros and cons of a stroked vs normal throw for a off-road motor?
Thanks

sorry to hear about you engine,
in my opinion, i would probably go with something simple like a 1776 or 1914 because for anything larger than that, you will want dual carbs and have to keep them tuned. as for a stroker, i wouldnt know what exactly to tell you. maybe check the high perf. forum (i cant think if thats what its called - i'm tired and not thinking straight)
you definitely want something reliable as to not break down and strand yourself a few miles from help or cell phone reception. |

Generally, a stroker motor has more torque than a non stroked motor. I can start off in 3rd gear in my buggy with a 2180cc, no problem. I'm a believer in the saying 'there's no replacement for displacement'.
So, I'd build as big as you possibly can afford. You'll never be upset with 'too much' power, you know what I mean?
Will you be assembling the motor? Remember, with the bigger strokes (82+) major clearancing is needed, not only to the case, but in some cases the cam, etc. |

| Ive got a local VW machine shop. Im going to have them do all the clearencing, But I would like to do final assembly. Depending on the time I have I probably just let them do that too. |
