RATRODVW wrote: Ya know, I kinda posted those just because I thought it would get at least somebody going. I think we all know I'm never going to own that car (I can't even paint the ones I own) and if I did, you know goddamn well that after buying the car, I would have NO money to do anything with it. I was just trying to get some blood pumping. I really don't think I could bring myself to even sit in that car, let alone screw it all up! If I really wanted a standard, I wouldn't even screw up a less rare one, I would build a clone out of a late fifties or early sixties bug. Don't hold it against me, just trying to stir up some shit.
well,if you want to stir up shit, take it to the rants.
do it here and all you'll do is get EB's blood pressure up. |

Some cars you just have to have respect for. They're like senior citizens. The cars that are daily drivers in the VW circuit, (BTW I'm a big fan of actually driving to shows as opposed to trailoring for MOST VWs) are like the early baby boomers. Gettin' more and more rare everyday, but still have some good stuff left in them and they need to be driven. VWs in majority are not show cars, they were meant to be driven. They're not "Duzies" or Bentleys, they are a utilitarian machine. But you still have to respect those "senior citizens" of the crowd. They are like little time machines. It's not my '49 but I would be sad if someone messed with that car.
I almost bought a '67 firebird a while back. Ended up not buying it because it was too OG for me. I don't have the dedication to firebirds that the car demanded. I would have put disc brakes, hi-po motor, etc. on it and it would have been wrong. That's an early car that needed to be respected, so I passed (even though it was a super deal).
This probably should be in rants, as my post helps no one with anything, but I didn't want to feed that forum (or myself so those that frequent it). |

I hear the owner of that 49 standard is a real big jerk, and the car is all full of Bondo and incorrect parts.
Anyway that's what I heard from my friend in Canada, who is very knowledgeable about bettles. |

Nah, I don't really care too much anymore. Obviously my views are different than everybody else, so I must be wrong. Whatever, ya know? I just said wouldn't it be cool if...? and I didn't think too much of it. I just wanted to get people thinking. If I had photoshopped the car, do you think people would've reacted differently? I think they would've. I'm sorry if I really pissed some people off, it wasn't my intention. I was just dreamin' bout something I can never have.
And the day that I'm afraid to go into a forum on the internet is gonna be the day I smash my computer with a 15lb sledge, because I obviously need to get out more. |

you're not wrong. everyone is entitled to their own opinions and should be comfortable with expressing them freely. the forums on thesamba.com are great for that, but the best forum by far is the rants & raves. you will meet all sorts of interesting people with excellent ideas and different opinions. and the best thing about it is, you can speak your mind and tell it exactly how it is. some people will agree, and others will disagree. it is a great place to share your knowledge and ideas with other people and have intelligent debates about all things vw at the same time.
i suggest you email everett or jen and ask them to get you in there. i'm sure you wont regret it. |
