I have a 1973 Baja Bug. I would like to turn it into a pickup. I have seen these on the road so I know someone somewhere must have plans. I need this to haul supplies so I don't want a plastic kit. Looking for metal plans.
Thanks. |

| Make it yourself, hack off the rear half and make a bed or modify an old pickup bed to fit. Check out www.volksrods.com a few people there are doing truck conversions over there, should give you ideas on how to mount or make beds. |

| I have a monster truck which gets about 12 mpg. Since I already have the Baja, why not a pickup baja that gets 30 mpg? |

| I had a Porsche 914 for about eight years. I did as good a restoration as I could over the years. All along I had to deal with people exhorting me to "Keep it stock". Any modification was a heresy. After getting bored with it I put it up for sale and found nobody wanted a restored 914. Several wanted rolling wrecks to rebuild themselves. So I'm not interested in stock or custom. I traded the Porsche for two beetles. I have the Baja to turn into a truck. I also have a 1967 that I'd like restored but with a better than original motor. |

BGW's kit
But as with most kits it requires you to glue the fiberglass panel onto the cut metal bug body. Not hard to make your own with a little cutting and welding. Do a search for "truck" or "pickup" in my gallery for tons of examples, kits and home built

| One you do this conversion I still think you should have it be a baja. You know the full deal with coil overs and some 3X3's and such. I think that would be pretty neat. |

I have the price from their catalog 10 years ago, I'm sure prices are alot different and my catalog's in a box somewhere anyways. I hear that they do tend to take their time making anything (they have other stuff in their business, not just VWs) but I do hear their quality is top notch. Just be prepared to wait (maybe a year-ish???)

If you haven't done so check out my gallery, I have hundreds of bug truck conversions of all different styles, maybe it'll influence you one way or another (just do searches for "truck" and "pickup") |

The cooler setup is the panel van type kit...not sure what they called it.
These do come up for sale frequently --- they're dogs to sell.
