You know I always wanted one of those. I remember at one of the last NONA meets at B&S they were for sale for $25. All the T34 guys there were snapping them up and I missed out

This picture makes me (as my friend is oft to say) happy in the pants. Oh, to have those bumpers for my humble whip. The rocker moldings as well.

how rare would the rear red Hella fog light that mounts under the bumper be considered? I haven't seen another one - anyone familiar with them?

Mike Fisher Fri Jun 06, 2008 9:10 pm

It's not a fog light! It's an extra brake light.

It's indeed a rear foglight, TUV- mandated for Germany. it's scarce, but they're out there, usually on eBay.

A red fog light! I think wolfman's brother has one he was using as a brake light?

They were mounted under the bumper on the driver's side, pointed slightly down at the road. It gives off a bright red aura in foggy conditions so that someone will not run up behind you in fog or heavy snow and not see your regular taillights.

Most Americans mistake them for 3rd brake lights, which didn't become mandated until 1985. Of course, there's nothing wrong with using them this way, but that wasn't the intent back in the 50s/ 60s/ 70s.

yes,mine was a foglight I used as a 3rd brake light instead.

Although technically not an Accessory, this very rare "Oil Slinger" was found on the rear brakes of my Salmon-Pink car. I had never seen or even heard of these before. Some say that it was only a rumor to exist, but the proof is in the pictures. Unfortunately, only the passenger side has one. If anyone knows where I can obtain another, please send me an email or PM. This was uber-cool to find!

Unless they are different for Type 3s, they are sort of easy to find. Buy some at the Classic tomorrow.

I just checked and my car still has the oil slingers aswell :D

abgwin Mon Jun 09, 2008 8:03 pm

what's the purpose/function of the "oil slinger"?

Its not a sealed bearing. If any oil gets past then this will capture it and expell it past the brake pads.

What kind drum is that on the left? Is that Slinger on a non pinwheel Drum? I though all early T3 had pinwheels. Are these Slingers the exact same item that is on early Buses?

The drum on the left is just like yours. Its smooth on the inside. The right drum is a later pinwheel

My Classic score. I shot my load on those trim rings I tell ya! Russ gave me the nos side draft dealy in lew of room payment and that 7-63 speedo was only $30. I picked up that WEGU nos D just because it was in the box. He had more so I know some of you scored too.
