There is a large hex bolt holding the sway arm on the back of my 73 super beetle. What tool do I need to remove it? Im tryin to install
polyurothane bushings.

I believe you are lookin for this - http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=ACC%2DC10%2D7165 It says transmission but will also fit the swing arm bolt.

It needs to be a hex socket.

What dkeslar was showing you was a Hex Key adapter for a ratchet set 17 MM.

EMPI makes them, i got mine from my local vw store for a couple bucks. worked great

I took the allen tool that is mounted in a socket for taking out drain plugs managed to wiggle it into the bolt and had enough allen key there to put a 17mm wrench on it. It wasn't the easiest way but it got the job done.

This is a better picture of the CIP1 tool listed above.... it should also be available at almost any FLAPs as it also fits the tranny or rear end plugs on Chevy S-10's.

i just took one of those large 17mm allen wrenches and cut off about an inch. then used a standard depth (not a deep socket) 17mm socket. workds like a champ.
