sorry I should have posted that it could also be a Motorola unit.
Is it the one with the white box on top of the alt? I
f so that is an old unit that is no longer made and the white box is the voltage regualtor. I do not think you will have much luck finding a replacment Voltage regulator for it.
What kind of tests have you done? Have you checked the output with a VOM (meter) to see it the alt is putting out? Have you checked all the wiring? |

If all it does is glow a little at night and maybe a little brighter when applying accessories, that may in fact be "normal" (to me anyway) and perhaps may, or may not effect the abilities of the charging system.
Hang a voltmeter off the battery with it running and stopped to compare voltages. |

| UPDATES: So I tore the thing apart today pulled out the alternator and got as far as just about to pull the fan off so I could take the thing down to checker or auto clone and have it tested and I didn't have a socket to take off the fan so what did I do I put the thing back in and put it all back together the fan shroud was harder to put back in after I had lifted it up to pull out the ALT. but I got the thing back in and on the first start up the RED LIGHT didn't come on and even on the second and third start but as soon as I got down the road a block and a half the thing lit up....So I"m still not sure what is wrong if anyone has any ideas I am very much open too them and in very much need of help....and FYI it's bright red when it's day time. Later on all and drive safe |

Get a new Bosch Al 82 alternator. Here is a link, you may or may not find it cheaper somewhere else so maybe shop around.

I would not jack around with the older Motorola ( if it is the one with the white regulator built on it).
Taking it off and having it tested at one of the chain stores is a waste of time. you can tell it's not charging and check it with a voltmeter yourself will confirm it.
You need to buy a 36MM socket for the fan nut. |
