So here is the deal. I am wanting to build a sand rail by my roommate in college and I found a baja bug for sale so i bought it. I am hoping that maybe i can do a few things to it the resale to make a little money to help the sand rail fund. It is a 1967 baja bug and the interior is in fair condition. There are just a few rust holes in the passenger side about 1/2" in diameter. I figured that i would sand the rust out then pop rivet some sheet metal unto the floor pan. I was then going to rip out the worn out carpet and put bedliner material in it. The kind the rolls on. Also the fiberglass fenders need to be touched up so i am going to do a little fiberglass work on them. Then sand the whole body down and primer it. Furthermore, it has a 1600 sp engine that has approximately 7,000 miles on it and is in excellent running condition. How much do you think i could sell this think for considering what you know? Thanks!!!

a picture would really help out. How are the tires? and how much work do you plan on putting into it? From what i hear right now iwould not pay anything over $1800 for it. thats just a guess though. If you plan on making money i would only improve the things that will increase the value the most.

plan on fixing the fenders...there are cracks...sanding it down then primering the car. I am also going to fix the floor pan along with putting bed liner material in the floor instead of carpet as i said before. here is a picture of the car a a while back...

After you primer it you should make a small investment and get it painted. You can get a paint job for around $275. Maybe raise the rear about a notch, this can be done for free if you know how. I guess it all depends on how much your willing to invest before the resale.

Pop Rivet?!?!?! If you're building a sand rail, you'll need to weld anyway. Do it right. If you're gonna be sloppy, at least don't use galvanized sheet metal.

Pop rivet, hell I'd just cut out the rust, and Glass the holes if they are that small. You can do it without making it all that visisble, and it wou't stick out like a sore thumb seeing as your not gonna have anything covering it on the inside.
Baja's ususally don't bring much money at all. Be very careful where and how you spend money on it if your just trying to "turn it". From the pic there is absalutly nothing special about the car (except that 67' would be the worst candidate for a baja and it has wheel adaptors :( ). Thats gonna be a stick on the side of the road and hope for a sucker kinda car. Shiny paint, shiny wheels, take the motor out and clean/paint it Clean interior and you may fetch a pretty good price from someonw wanting a new toy!
Good luck |

if you got a ddecent deal on it i think i would just to the carwash spend some times and get it really clean. you probably wouldnt make as much but you eouldnt have much time invested either. I have seen some nice bajas that bring good money I am sticking quite a bit into mine and it should be almost show quality by the time im done. Not like i plan on selling it though it will be my summer car along with my 71 Javelin

yeah presonally i wouldnt waste my time i would get it cleaned up and set on the side of the road for like $1200 and see if you get a taker. most baja owners dont care about paint they just run them in the woods or sand.
