i was looking into ordering my bumpers for my baja and was wondering if anyone has had problems with exhaust and the double tube bumpers? this is the exhaust that I have right now.

I dont know how long will be able to keep it on since it seems really loud right now unless it quiets down after broken in. your opinions on baja bumpers? |

| either my connection just took a dump or that link takes entirely too long to load up. What type of exhaust is it? Which bumpers (where are you going to order them) were you looking at? |

I can't load the link either.
If you're talking about the standard double tube baja bumpers (like the one I've got on the Baja in my signature), then you should be OK with any exhaust EXCEPT for a horizontal (flat) single glass-pack, and possibly the dual upright quiet-packs (which I have never tried). |

| its hard to explain. It comes off the the endinge and kinda sits at about the 11 o'clock area. Im not sure on where I am getting the bumpers from yet but they all look pretty close to eachother. Jcwhitney or possibly Mark V. with the baja kit |

| there are so many better places to buy vw parts than jc whitney. do some searching online and talk a vw vendor...they generally have more options and can help you with fitment questions. The people at jc whitney "probably" (think: heard!) don't know anything about them. |

You can kinda see it in this photo. My bumper is just resting on the pipes. They sit low and tight to the head. Makes sparkplugs on a warm motor a PITA.
Those are the Dual Megaphone pipes. I had them and Hated them! To fricen loud and Crappy low end. I switched to a merged header, It felt better and sounded great. They dont stick out much past the motor, so There is no interferance issues.

| thoes are the same ones and yes they are very loud.. As soon as i get pulled over by the cops i might go to a header. I just dont really like any of the mufflers for the headers. I was unsure on how far the tube bumper sticks out. is it close enough to melt the paint off? thanks for the advice. everyone flames Jcwhitney but I am very doubtful of any VW shops around here. For what Jcwhitney is it does a decent service and there prices aren't bad. I Will probably just order the baja kit, and front and rear bumpers, and side bars with MArk V. |

The exhaust is going to be Nowhere close to the bumper. You sould be fine.
The only reason mine look like that is that the Bumper is just sitting there. It was not attatched at the time. |

There are only a couple basic "bolt-on" cages avail. The double tube is firewall mount and the singles are shock tower mount.
In my opinion, the firewall mount is a weak setup unless you have a cage and your mounting it to that through the firewall. The other problem you may encounter with it is if you have Dual carbs you might have some interference issues.
If your just bolting together a basic mail order baja, I'd use the single. At least its bolted to a stout area somewhat easily ( none of these cages don't just bolt on, they take a little tweaking and/or some welding or creative bolting)
I like the HD version that Empi has, but its not easily obtainable sometimes. I finally found one used at a swap here in FL and I modified it by welding parts of my old one on it till I was happy (before paint):

| so i guess the bouble tube would actually weaker. Maybe I will go with just the single tube bumpers all the way around. the tweaking doesnt bother me I just want the basic frame anyways and then i can make it fit. That bumper you have is definitly strong! |
