wow I can't even come close to saying that jason!the '64 is starting to take shape very nicely, about all I have left major to sort out is my tires and I should have some spy photos to post shortly 8)
I've also been under the '63 this week installing lower ball joints and shocks.taking it on a 200 mile round trip journey tomorrow to a show in greensboro.
btw,the color of my shocks were gray, they were the original boge with vw part # and logo on them.it seems to me the shocks might have been painted to fool a previous owner into thinking new ones were put on during a service.
most of the tie rod ends had been replaced along with an upper joint @ one point.I had a hell of a time getting the bushings off the trailing arms and upper bolts so that's why I think this.I mean a REALLY HELL OF A TIME unlike other cars i've had. |

It's real, I was there at the moment of discovery. It was pulled off a Beetle air cleaner that had it still intact. |

Ahh. I've seen bug air cleaners like that. I have been told they were used on some industrial engines. However, my dad bought a reconditioned 36HP in the 70s and it came with an air cleaner with that plastic plug. Could be they used that as a universal air cleaner for outright engines. Any ideas? |

That could be. It actually was a 36hp engine but the engine was a regular engine, nothing special. Maybe the previous owner bought a new air cleaner from the dealer back in the day and they got the universal replacement like you say. |

| If these are genuine VW, there should also be a part number stamped on the inside part of the drum. |
