Guys,

I'm selling the squareback. Unfortunately, the toys have to go. I know that most of you are very familiar with it. I've done some additional work to it, since I purchased it from Corey. The car is now in daily driver status. My asking price is $18,000. I thought I would give everyone on the club, first dibs.

Here's what's been done:

Original 1500cc motor with 1600cc internals
Stock Dual carburetors
Stock Air Cleaner
Counterweighted 69mm Crankshaft
Lightened and Balanced Flywheel
Mahle Graphite Coated Forged 85.5mm Pistons
Converted to 12 Volts with Porsche small diameter Generator
Powder coated all tins
Rebuilt late model single port heads
NOS parts included in engine restoration
12 Volt Chokes
Distributor cap, rotor, condenser, and points
Restored Glenn Ring Stock Distributor
NOS Plug Wires

Installed NOS fuel gauge and sender (12V)
Installed Hella H4 Headlights
Installed all new 12V bulbs throughout vehicle

Gone through complete wiring, everything works except the clock which is still 6 Volts

Installed NOS wheel cylinders on every corner, and new rubber and metal brake lines
Installed New Brake Pads
Flushed entire system and replaced fluid with ATE Blue

Hey Rob- just got my Nov Hot VW's (South Australia) today and have to say well done again.

Might have to find a fuel pump cover for you though?

Also Jason- got the decals today- thanks again. I might put one of the club stickers on the 911 once it's painted (another couple of weeks before it goes back together). I can then get back into the sea blue 'S' notchback rust repairs that were started before the window leaks in the 911 caused a complete tear apart and repaint (don't ask....).

Howdy to all from beautiful Adelaide!

Your car is awesome which is why I hate to say that is will never sell for anywhere near $18,000.

beetle08 Wed Oct 15, 2008 11:46 am

Thanks guys, This whole economy has effected my wife and I, so we need to sell the toys.

I am worried about the price too, that's why I was hoping you guys would have some feedback. I started way high, but I do think the car should fetch in the 15K range with the work that has been done.

Please let me know your thoughts.

notchboy Wed Oct 15, 2008 11:56 am

I too think its value is high-all of T3 guys will but dont be surprised at the 8-12k offers. And if an offer near 12k comes up you should seriously think it over as it may not come by again.

Price is relative to who's looking. For the working, blue-collar man, 18G's is a lot of money, plus it would probably be a daily driver. But for the white-collar dude with money in the bank, what's 18G's when you can dole out 40G's on a Beemer or Mercedes, granted those kind of people usually are buying those kind of cars rather than looking for a 64 Squareback, but you never know....

I think it depends on if you expect a short sale or can hold out. If you need to sell fast, I agree with Jason, but think 14K is fair, and gives you some bartering power. However, if you can hold out, heck, why not ask your price, people blow money on Barndoor shells. What's not to say someone might have the lightbulb go on and migrate over to see the deal? Might be in a dreamworld, but gotta have faith that stuff like that could happen.

I've also seen custom squares on other VW sites go for alot more, and I think your's is alot nicer and has more originality. BTW, the 64 Nutria Variant, along with the 66 Teak's are my personal fav's.

Good luck, and let us know what happens.
