i bought a new air filter & a friend told me to just block off my oil breather because i didn't have a pipe to connect it to the air filter, well put it this way i checked my dip stick last week & it was just under the maximum line, i checked it now & it's just above the minimum line! i also did a test & it left a puddle of oil when i blocked the oil breather for about 30 secs. i'm hoping this is why it sometimes cuts out when i put the clutch down ready to stop at the lights [-o<
my engine has been giving me trouble recently :( |

| Good point. Never block off the oil breather. This creates way too much pressure inside of the crankcase. If anything, adding a breather box would be the way to go. Good luck, hope your engine starts running better. |

because i blocked my oil breather it appears to be leaking from the crank shaft oil seal  luckily it's only dripping a bit - i'm going to keep topping up the oil when it gets low for now.
it still keeps cutting out though when it's warming up, it used to start & warm up so nice, i don't know what's happened  now it cuts out every few times i slow down & put the clutch down, i think it did it 5 times this morning, it really stressed me out, cut out at the lights where all the school kids where crossing too  angered me so much that i took my anger out on it & really ragged it at one point - i've never done this to my bertie before! i can't believe he's giving me so much trouble after all the work & effort i put in! it's one thing after another recently
my opinion is that the choke is releasing too soon - i wish i had a manual choke! if i went out there now it'll run & idle alright, which is why i don't want to adjust anything. at least when it cuts out it starts straight back up. for now i'm going to leave it 5minutes on the driveway to warm up & cut out all it wants, then hopefully it'll be alright on the way to dropping my girlfriend at work & going college. |

| Strange how it starts right back up after it stalls. Have you done anything to the carb recently? Besides the new breather? I would definitely try adjusting the choke a little, and if the carb hasn't been rebuilt recently it may be time for that. Don't give up on it, and try not to take it out on the car!! Just kidding, been there myself. Good luck. |

| i've put my old air filter on & connected it all back up, & unless it's just me i seem to have a bit more power when changing through the gears. i'm hoping that all will be well tomorrow morning, because now i have my old cardboard pipe & stuff going to the air filter that warms the air [-o< |

hasn't solved the problem, i'm going to leave it 5minutes on the driveway to warm up
i would fiddle with it but my plugs were done a while back & it can't be them if it runs nice when after it's been started in the mornings, my carburetor was set up really nice & the engine idles steadily when it's warm, & i can't do my timing because my distributor is stuck! |

| connected it all back to how it was now, including all the pipes from the air filter, & it's running great :D i've made a habit of leaving it 2minutes or so on the driveway to warm up (with the crook lock on so no-one drives off!) & it definately helps. i can have my music on loud again without worrying that i won't hear the engine will slowly idle to a stall :D |

| I just recently put an pil breather tube now, didnt think that it was the problem till I came accross this but is it possible that the oil breater tube is causing my oil light to come on in sharp turns? (mostly noticed before engine is completly warm) |

hmm, so what your saying is that you didn't have an oil breather pipe going to your air filter, but you do now? if so, i doubt this is why your oil light comes on because i know that on my bug that if i took off my oil breather pipe it wouldn't caused the engine to run differently, all it would do is allow oil to splirt all over the place
does your oil light flicker at any times other than turning sharply? |

| no i mean the rubber peace that goes on the end of the tube, just today I noticed that it is starting to come on and stay on longer during steep hills or less sharp turns. But as usual only before t he car is completely warm, it isnt stalling out, I can sit there and idle it while the light stays on (5 seconds sometimes) I am going to clean the sensor and the pressure valves today and see if that helps, but im fearing it may be the oil pump |
