I want to touch up some areas on my 71. It is the factory orange, but I don't know the code- anyone have it handy?
Is this the same orange as the bus? |

Try this link for color code info:
http://www.autocolorlibrary.com/cgi-bin/search/search.pl
From the pulldown menu, choose VW and the year. |

Is it Brilliant Orange ,Clementine Orange, or Tibetian Orange ?
Is there another paint chip/code site? That one didn't give models, and I don't want to guess. |

Try Jason Hamilton's site:
http://www.type-14.com/
His "Paint Chips" section should narrow it down for you.
Just remember, the production run for 1971 models is
properly listed as Aug. 1970-July 1971. Amber (L20E)
or Blood Orange (L21E) look like likely candidates.
My own '74 KG 'vert is Amber (L20E). |

| I know it sounds silly but look at Phoenix Red (Paint code L32K). It's listed as red but sure looks orange. Everyone I know asks if I'm keeping mine the original orange. When I say its red they say "That ain't red. You must be color blind!" |

LOL @ 74 Ghia.
When I say mine is properly called "Amber",
people usually say "looks like Brilliant Orange to me!"
VW did rename certain colors down through the years,
at least that's what I've read. |

| although my 71 ghia 'vert has been repainted in a dark metalic green, the "birth certificate" from germany says signal orange is : L 20 E if that helps you any. |

L 20 E is also the paint code for Amber.
Obviously VW renamed the colors in some cases
but they kept the same paint code designation. :-k |
