  View original topic: Where are the FUN vw shows and why aren't there more of thm?

First of all...I love VWs and everything that has to do with them, been doin it for a long time...but, why aren't there more shows out there that rival the fun had at all of the roddin and sporttruck events? Like the after show hours cruisin', the bikini contests, the full three day shows, lowest contest...you know the activities that make the shows worth driving a long distance to attend. Mabye its just because I'm way out here in Indiana..surrounded by not much more than corn and old farts with they're fully restored 52 Buick or the such! I've never been to a westcoast show but it does seem that they are having a lil more fun at their shows. Why can't us "land locked" VeeDubbers have a great three day event with all the trimmins out here? Just tryin' to get some input from you guys whether it be bad or good. :D

Man I hear ya. The closest thing we get to a VW show around here is when I happen to park mine next to each other and leave the parts shed open (swap meet).

I really wish someone would organize a three day "all hell break loose" VW party :P
something like this show------>http://importandtruckbash.com/
or mabye this one-------------->http://www.autoshows.cc/

Thats cool man! good to here that someone has a show in the werks, and in Indiana. Very true..we do'nt have the numbers around that all the ricers do, or the rods, but it does make it hard on those of us that are die-hard vw fiends. Yeah....we can, and do go to the Goodguys events, hell I'm even a memeber(the ISCA also) but at those shows we just don't fit in exactly, like a square peg in a round hole! They are alot of fun but man...I just long for a true "west-coast style" event out here. One good thing though...from the number of people that seem to be interested in our "rides of choice" lately..mabye we're on the verge of another resurgance....ala the late eighties heyday! (ahhh....remember all those cool and radical rides back then? like SHOCKWAVE, PLUM LOCO, SPELLBOUND) by the way, this is my ride...lemme see yers!

You obviously have the gumption! Start a club (if you're not already in one) and get a show together! If you're organized, enthusiastic (which I can tell you are), and really have the drive, you can do it. There are lots of us who can help you out with getting things off the ground. :P

Its because you are in Indy, move out to Cali....we have a show at least once a month all year. During the summer months its at least 2 a month.

The Classic is coming up in June, 4 days of vw goodness.

Man NorCalNick...don't rub it in or nuttin! lol :lol: I almost moved out there a few years back...but I came down with a case of .."Babyonthawayitis".. it was terminal(for my move plans at least). Oh well, its all good.Got a awesome family out of it, come to think of it we even sprouted a lil veedubber, keepin tha faith. Still sometimes I feel like thats where I belong, but then my priorities hit me in tha back of tha head and yell "WAKE THE F*** UP!!" I do get out there ocasionally I guess, went to Pomona Swap meet a coupla times(thats probably no match to the all volkswagen events out there..huh? Anyhow if I can get the balls to put together at least a cruise night or somethin it would be a start, then build on it with that westcoast mentality.Who knows we might have just been involved in planting the seed to something you guys will just have to drive out here for.....MMMM I can see it now......."CRUISE TO THA CORN 2006" :P WADDAYA THINK?

Autotrix, I totally agree. Things aint the same as before. I was just talking about this on the BBOE thread in the rants. Chris Addingtons RodBuster ghia, Spellbound, all those cars were so indepth as far as show cars go. Full on showcars are a dying breed nowadays. I think as for the full on fun aspect, VW shows are very family oriented and I think some promoters are scared to go overboard with fun and wild shows. They are nothing like truck shows with 3 day beer bonging and girls gone wild type activity. I think those guys know how to turn a show into a party. Either way, I wish they would become more fun again like they were 10 years ago.

Nobody said that we can't bring back the "new era" of ThaFunSHow...the future is in our hands......now we just need 'bout 10,000 more dudes that fel the same way. I think that downfall of the full on 100point show-car came around because partially the media allowed it! They prolly started runnin out of really cool tricked out rides to shoot, so they just began accepting lesser cars(or mabye just a different style). If everybodys like me, they buy those mags like they were the "holy grail" and with simpler cars in the mags everybody jus figured "Oh, thats what they want and thats what everyone else is doin....I guess I'll build one of those!". Not me! call me an ol' skooler or whatever but I'm still mentally tryin to build those late 80's cars with a new twist.
SUPERSKIM- you must be from GFK from tha looks of yer "pix".Ive been checkin you guys out for a while now.GFK kicks ass, every car is "tha shizzle my dubnizzle" :D

You guys suck! :D

Like you need ANOTHER reason to get out of the midwest! Nicks right it's like it only stops for about 2 months out here.

Maybe the lure of the "show car" ran it's course? I can appreciate a nicely redone car but I really appreciate someone who drove their car there a lot more, and I don't mean off the trailer around the block!

autotrix Fri May 21, 2004 4:34 pm

Mines a daily driver xcept for rain n snow(yeah) snow. Thats the reason we build these things....cause we love em and love to be seen rollin em. Man the more I drive mine the more people say "man, I gotta get me one of those...thats badass" but I have yet to see more than two hands-full of people actually gettin dirty and commitin themselves to restoring and driving em.
