your ideas aren't bad, and i understand about the exaust, it's pretty ugly.
already have a set of 356 16 slot rims not yet mounted. fronts are 15x5, and the rears are 15x7. dont ask, i have no idea where they came from.
the one piece that i have now, i dont really like (too racey... in a bad way). i recently came across a good deal on sheet aluminum, and got around 80 sqft for nothing, so i'm think about attempting my own front end. check out clyde bergs berganator (tube front end looks primarily stock), something similar is planned. w-decklids are hard to find in this area, but my search continues. the 911 style cooling fan is cool, but too expensive right now. i work at an aircooled shop out here, the work is a lot of fun, but the pay isn't enough for things like that just yet.
either way, she'll be fun. let me know what the rest of you think!

56_oval,
Check out The Samba classifieds (parts section) for W decklids. You can find them there for a couple hundred from time-to-time (saw two yesterday for less than $200.00). If it was my '56 I'd work on building a resto-custom: ditch the fiberglass front end, change the exhaust and add your own influences where you see fit. I'm not all that excited by "pure stock," totally OG bugs, but when it comes to splits and oval windows, I believe in keeping them in the close-to-stock condition (where they don't require too many MAJOR modifications to be returned to stock). As for me, I'm keeping all the stuff I take off my '55 in case I want to put it back on one day (including my original motor). With that said, some modifications simply can't be "undone"....and those are the tough decisions to make. Mostly, I say "have fun with it and enjoy." --Late.

| Can you really make your front end with fenders after you got a one piece front end? |

i'm hoping so, i put the headlights in today and they kindda turned out like shit. they'll work to get it inspected, but they dont look good at all. i have a guy building a lightweight tube frame for me. basicly, it's just 2 bars that run from each side of the dash, and curve right under each side of the hood. i have aluminum panels i'm gonna cut for the side panels, and then pop rivet the whole thing together. i think it'll look a whole hell of alot better than the one piece.
if that fails, i guess i'll have to go to plan 2. creativecarcraft.com offers a pre 66 one peice with headlight buckets and mounting hardware. the only problem with that is that it costs over $700, and the shipping is over $300 including crating charge.
so needless to say, i hope the one i build will work out. |

| i work at an aircooled shop in irving, so finding parts isnt really a problem. i can get a front clip easy, it's the sides that are the problem. i found a guy online that has a 56 front clip dash forward for only $60, only problem is location. either way, shes my daily driver right now, and she's fun to drive. |
