My 71 Ghia doesn't have any sort of cover/ring around the rear or side heat vents. My old bug had those plastic round things around the back ones, and i seem to remember something around the front ones too.
the PO put a carpet kit in and covered up all the vents, but I want some heat, so I'm trying to figure out what do do.
Pictures would help out immensely!!! |

| Yes, there should be louvered covers on the side heat vents. I'm in the same PO situation. You see them for sale on E-Bay once in awhile. I'm in a warm climate so heat is'nt an issue. Po gave me one with the Ghia, you can have it if you want to pay the shipping. I'll trry to post a pic manana. |

Could someone post a photo of the original set up for the rear floor heater vents (with carpet and...?). I've got a '69 Ghia 'vert.
Many thanks for the great info. I get from this site.

Here you go. From a 1974 but the same as 1969.

Many thanks. Great pic! So it appears that a piece of metal or plastic molding fits over the carpet and the opening. Is that right? Are these "moldings" reproduced? And, BTW, is there some sort of cardboard liner under the carpet, or is the carpet and molding attached directly to the sheetmetal?
Thanks again,

I don't believe those are reproduced by anyone, but there is a pair of original vent covers for sale:

These are correct, in the adv. that Steve linked:
I do not think they are reproduced.
Also, have not seen anything in the way of a liner material
under the carpet on the vertical panels. |

that sucks. PO of my coupe also just covered over the rear heat vents. fronts are in place, but right now the heat control is jammed so heat only comes out of the rear.
guess I'll have to snag a pair when I go up to the big local VW parts barn (something like 30,000 sq feet of chicken barn packed with old VWs in various states of decay, 5 ghias, 4 of them are fat chicks YAY) |

I am missing these as well and would be happy to know of some reproductions...
Sorry to hijack (is anyone ever really sorry?) But that carpet looks killer, is it from West Coast Metric? I just bought the oatmeal and it looked just like yours =P~ =D> if so I am stoked! |

Yes, the carpet is from West Coast Metric.
It's their "Sure Fit" carpeting in oatmeal loop.
We have always been very pleased with it.
BTW, there seems to be a good supply of original rear heater
vents still available out there. Shouldn't be too hard to
locate some with a bit of searching. |

These are the same as on my '66..... so you can probably use vents from a '66 thru to '74. Hopefully, knowing that widens the field for you.
