I picked up a non walk thru bus, and I have seen from picture in books that there is a cover over the spare tire in the cargo compartment of the window busses. What is this called and is this a storage piece or does the top flip up? Does it have a purpose other than covering the spair tire hump. :?:

If I got the idea right.. you must be referring to the patrition panels, seen in standards and deluxes. On the top there's a flat area called drink tray. An ashtray is mounted in the middle. A long rubber piece covers up the bottom across the patrition, or as some call it the bulkhead. Other than tidying it up to match the rest of the interior panels, it has no other purpose that I know of, except to drive someone mad trying to find the original ones to complete a resto.
