I have a '69 convert that was originally autostick, so I'm thinking it has something to do with that. The tank is about the size of a football, with a tube coming off it and is held in place with a strap around the middle, and a bracket bolted at the top.
Thanks,
Mike |

| That is part of the autostick setup. It is a vacuum canister IIRC. |

| Its the charcoal canister which is part of the emissions system. Should have a small hose coming from the same type canister in the trunk, and a larger hose coming from the fan housing. The remaining tube/hose ran to the air cleaner. |

If it is inside and very close to the rear wheel well, that is the canister for the semi-automatic transmission.
The charcoal canister would sit more towards the outside.
I that a 70 ghia with the frame work to hold the canister near the wheel well but my is 100% stick so there is no canister there.
I guess to make production simple they put this in even on cars without semi auto transmission. |

I agree with the above...
It's the emissions can.
The cali models have it for sure...
I had a 1972 model that had it placed on the side wall of the front trunk.
Those things are a joke! |
