I'm not too good at this, but my whole engine area was rusted 2/3 of the way around to right. The channel that holds the seal was in very bad shape too. I got a guy to send me 2/3 rd's of the engine deck with the channel you're talking about. Haven't installed it yet, but going to. You need to find someone who has a good engine decking area to cut it out for you or go to www.karmannghia.com and buy the sheet metal. It comes in three pieces so therefore you buy three pieces of sheet metal, if that is what you need. that's about all I know about that now.

Just saw this on ebay and thought you might be interested... I don't know if this is a good deal or not, and it seems strange that the opening bid is the same as the "buy it now" price, but it may be worth it to you. If this link doesn't work you can search by item #2480760650- ends on June 5th.

DoubleDD is right...you can't buy just the metal that holds the seal. It's welded to all the replacement engine deck panels available, though. The cost is considerable; about $80-100 for each of the three pieces. KGPR sells 'em used, but for nearly the same (or more) as the repro pieces. As for getting them used, most parts cars would have the same amount of rust in the same places you do. The center and left hand repro pieces are fairly easy to come by...the right piece is scarcer. I have seen these repro pieces pop-rivetted over what's left of the engine decking, but the right fix is to drill out the spot welds on the old piece, and have the new ones welded in.

The piece Monica posted goes back against the firewall. It's cool, but won't help you with holding the seal. I can't see a channel on it for holding the forward seal, so I think it just covers the existing panel.

See, there is the problem, I dont need the decking, I have replaced several on other ghias, so I am aware of them, but mine is actually good, only the weather strip holderthingie(just made that word up) is rotten, so I am still looking, mabe i can find a rotten panel with good holderthingies on them, although its unlikely! thanks ahgain
