Hello everyone...i am sure someone has asked this questioned before, but i have a 1973 karmann ghia which has been modified with a 2110 engine. I am really concerned about the engine heat. What can i add to my car to make it run cooler (oil sump, oil cooler, ect). I live in south Texas...so it is hot. thank you for your time.

I live in Oklahoma, so I know what you're talking about. You'd get a better response posting your question in the Engine/Performance Forum; however, I would recommend a deep sump and Porsche 911 Style fan shroud.

Deep sump. oil filter and oil cooler + remove the old doghouse cooler.

It would actually run better if you left in the doghouse cooler because it is warmed by the engine so it wouldn't let your oil get too cold. Oil needs a little warmth to lubricate properly, and I believe it should be in the 125-200 degree range. If your oil is too cold, it could end up doing more harm than good.
A setup with a temperture activated bypass switch would work without the doghouse cooler, but keep an eye on the oil temp when you first start running to make sure it isn't opening too early or too late.

IF you don't want to do something as drastic as a 911 shroud, you could get a larger bottom pully. It installs very easily and only required minor trimming of engine tin. IF you do that and frequently get your engine to the 5000 rpm range, you may wish to invest in a high speed welded fan to stop it from flying apart. [/url]

James,

You offer sound advice; however, the original question had to do with weather in Texas. Trust us down south -- it gets VERY HOT compared to BC.
