Has anyone ever successfully made a vert decklid for a '65/'66 Beetle using a stock '65 decklid and a decklid from a later bug, like '71/'72? The shape is a little different and I wonder if it's possible to make it work.

Weld in the factory louvers off a factory vert lid onto a standard lid, it's semi-commonly done

If I had a factory vert decklid I would just put it on the car. I don't, and that's why I'm trying to make one.

Do you mean these? http://www.csp-shop.de/cgi-bin/shop2/shop_main.cgi...0722a&pn=0
These are just vent grill covers. They are not the vents themselves.

The early 60's Vert lids are 5 slots with a total size of 6"x3"-- one on each side. This does match the 1970 Beetle Sedan rear deck lid (USA)

Looks close enough to me.

"Real" vert decklid: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=77851

'70 decklid: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=61456

Besides, mine's a '66, not early sixties. The point of all this is not to recreate a "Factory" vert decklid to the exact enough to be used on a stock restoration of an early 'Vert. The point is to provide additional cooling for the big-ass motor in my hardtop '66 without resorting to decklid standoffs, which I don't like. As long as it doesn't look like a hack job, I don't care if it's not "correct".

What about the CCC fiberglass units? They are awesome quality. I'm using their W vert lid on my early vert.
