What a way to make ur first post here .. Not a Q how to replace ur bearings or something like that .
Nope : need some info on a chassis number

-1-0497...

I know it starts with 497 and then three other digits .
Is it a Zwitter or an Oval chassis number ?
Diff sites on the net tell me diff things abt it .

Maybe modelyear and/or year of production they are using on the diff sites ?
Can somebody help me out here please

When its just an Oval its an early one and im happy
If its a Zwitter .. ill have a smile from ear to ear till X mas :D

-1-0497 is all i got from the guy whos selling the original dutch papers ..
Its from 1953 and either way : im thrilled to find it .

hey,

those #'s are really close to the #'s on my car. 1 052 ***. my car is a 1956 oval that was built in december of 1955. after a quick reference, i'd say that that car is a 1956 oval that was built between august and december of '55.

Thnx for the info but two sites on the net told me this :

may 1953 487 413
June 1953 501 382

And the other one

1952 428 156_______________ Last of the split dash in October
1953 575 414_______________ Last split rear window in March

Are the european numbers different then the US Beetles perhaps ?

Think im getting it .. it isnt a 53 at all .. :(
Or ... ?

okay,

after re-reading your post, i'm a little confused about how many #'s are in the vin that thte guy gave you.

is it 1-049-7?? or 1-497-???.

it should be 1-followed by six numbers.

if that car is 1-497-??? i beleive it's a 53.

if that car is a 1-049-7?? read my above post.

Its getting late in Holland so I looked at it again what he mailed me ..
Its as I stated b4 ..... -1-0497...
He claims thats its from a Split from 53 .

Now ive asked him tru mail when those papers were issued . If thats in 53 then the 0 in -1-0497... isnt correct .

Now ill have to wait what hes gonna answer me

thats what i'm saying. the 1-0**-*** is not a 53. it's a 56. if its a 53, its
1-***-***.

just ask this clown to give you the full vin. whats the point of keeping the last 2 or 3 #'s secret? and ask for a pic or description of the dash and the rear window.

split dash & oval window = zwitter.

oval dash & oval window = oval.

If it is the earlier number, then it was built in June 1953. If it is the later number, then it was built in December 1955. Either way, that makes it an Oval.

Got a reply .. Dutch papers were issued in July 1953
So june 1953 sounds reasonable
Feeling a bit more relaxed

a zwitter (october 52-march 53 ) is a split window with oval dash so july 53 is a oval with oval dash that does not use the chrome around the ash trey on dash nor should it have the knob on the face.
