Great time!!!

Kids had a ball at the campout. Was a bit cold at night for my little one. (forgot the blankets). Weather was unbelievable during the day. Nice to see the samba crowd out in force. I met alot of new friends from all over the country and Canada. Found some needed parts for my Kombi. Thanks goes to Stanagon for the battery hold down straps!

Was a great turnout for the split bus crowd. Had an exciting ride home on 84. Jesus you just don't realize how fast people are driving until you get behind the wheel of a split doing 45 mph. Needless to say, I stayed awake.

Thanks Chuck P for a great weekend for my boys and myself.

I totally forgot about meeting everyone at noon. The 5:30 wake up call in the campground when people started gettin outta there kinda threw off my morning. :-) That's my beige '79 Westy behind the grey split in that pic, I was the one with the Dalmation and the Dead flag across the windsheild. It was great to meet the people I did, had a nice leisurely ride home after the show, weather was perfect, couldn't have asked for a better day!! Next weekend it's off to Niagara Falls, Canada for the June Jitterbug...great show, for those within driving distance, I highly recommend it!!

That 5:30 wakeup call was Glenn starting that monster of his. BTW, that's my green westy next to tech's, I was parked right behind the twins and just in front of crukab.

My aircooled pics are here. I took a lot less pics than I thought I would... wish I had taken more. For some reason they aren't really uploaded in any order either. High res pics are available...

See what happens when you don't say much in real life? No one knows who you are :-)

That's me on the far right side with the hat.

Stanagon Mon Jun 21, 2004 12:40 pm

Here's another picture from Litchfield showing J.Pickens getting down and dirty to judge the split bus class. That's Mike Plickys' red '60 Kombi he's looking at. I'm not sure what his daughter is doing behind him, hopefully she's not sharing anything with those two characters next to her...:)

I'll try and get some more pictures from this great day posted later this week.

Thanks for letting us know. I'm sure you told me, but I just didn't remember. What a day though!

Stan,

Thats a classic shot! Man, come to think of it my kids were acting kind of funny on the way home, and both fell asleep. Which way was the wind blowing?

Just a FYI:

The dude on the right drives this:

The guy on the left drives this (at least I THINK that's Tim):

Both are really nice guys, I've talked with them at a few shows, Tim is in the LI Club with me & Glenn.

Stanagon Mon Jun 21, 2004 2:18 pm

Yes, I know they are both really nice guys. I met Tim last year at Litchfield and met the guy with the Zebra striped bus this year. I just couldn't resist getting that photo posted today.

Glenn Mon Jun 21, 2004 3:10 pm

Tim is the guy on the left and he drives this.

Hey, I've gotten to know Tim a bit, and he is a great guy. Those are just cigs he's smoking. And my daughter is drinking her "All American Soda Company Shirley Temple Soda". Just saw them in Nixon's General Store in Tabernacle, NJ. No kidding, its a real Shirly Temple, complete with a maraschino cherry inside. Oh, and a little plastic cage to keep you from needing a Heimlich maneuver to dislodge the thing, and of course, legal warnings about only removing the cage after you finish the drink.

It was my first official judging of a car show, I hope I did OK.
Too bad the checklists didn't allow for upping the numbers for that '54 barndoor. I would have just given it the first place Transporter category award if it was up to me. But I tried to follow the rules. Didn't add up the scores, but I'm guessing the newly refurb'd '62 deluxe won. I did mark it down, as Jon Hazetguy noted, due to the unoriginal glass, incorrect middle seat, wrong assist straps, and the like. But it still was an excellent job by Lenny Copp's shop, and deserved to win under the judging rules, if it indeed did.

Did everyone notice Eddie Vargas's (going from memory, I think that's his name) non-sunroof deluxe? That thing was scary original. Uzi posted some photos from the Englishtown show. Another of my favorites, though again it was probably not a winner for the same reasons as the '54.

Can't wait to hear the official results. I hope some of those buses got some of the extra discretionary awards, they deserved it.

UZI Tue Jun 22, 2004 2:44 am

did anyone take pictures of the 54 deluxe?

jdot is representing in his BDM hitman shirt.
