--does a 009 work with 6V?---
I've been having troubles with timing on my OG small body distrib. I decided to use the 009 I had on my shop. I bought all new cap, rotor, condensor, points. Installed two days ago and can't get the engine to fire. TDC is TDC. Rotor is pointing at stick shift instead of front pass seat. I put wires on cap in cloclwise order 1-4-3-2 and set. set static timing at 7.5 degrees TDC. Turns over but backfired. Checked point gap-GOOD. Checked TDC-GOOD. Made sure wires were in order..

HELP....
Oh should ignition wire be on #15 on coil and condersor be on #1. What would happen if they were swithched around?

sounds like you are getting spark so wires set up is good. try this have someone turn the motor over while you turn the dizzy. it sounds like the drive gear may be off by a few teeth or your dizzy may be bad. also try rearranging the wires to see if you get it to spark. but i would try the first. the drive may be off keeping you from getting spark at the right moment.

 Damn Brian! I just had a look at the previous cars you've owned. Do you not like anything you buy? Did you own a VW salvage yard or what???

I was getting frustrated today AGAIN. So I decided to put the old dizzy back on. Same result.
My neighbour the GM mechanic took my wire off the first time so I didn't get to see how they were. Do they go

------- 1
-----2 ^ 4 the arrow is the rotor pointing at #1
------ 3

If that is indicating as circle, then yes. On the dist, starting with #1 going clockwise 1, 4, 3, 2. 0=Coil

I almost always pull the number one plug to make sure I'm on the compression stroke. Only takes a few extra minutes and guarantees you are on the right stroke.
