I've been thinking about some of the cars that are in the SOME DAY catagory, and have been working on some of the design elements behind them.
I've seen a few beetle sedans that have have had the top cut off, doors welded up, and been all smoothed over for a 'vw vert 'hop in' ....before any of you tell me "NO" ...i must admit i appreciate your opinions and agree that they have their place. i am planning on doing this on a car that is "gone" due to the extensive amount of custom work i want to be doing.
My thoughts now are on cooling. I've heard that the reason the vents under the back window are not there on a vert is because the flow of air is not there when the top is down. because this car will not have a top, i'm going to cut them out completely. The rear decklid is going to have OVAL vents frenched into it, creating one odd looking vert, sedan, oval lid. Because i live in the dessert i know i'm going to need a lot more airflow for the engine to both cool down, and for the engines demand for air itself.
here are some thoughts on what i might do for this. because a perminant vert isn't going to need a heater. What if i were to run two 6 in pvc elbows through the firewall, through the parcel tray and then run hoses to the heater channles...(kinda like if you had heater boxes but up and out insted. Then i would open the front of the heater channels under the front fenders, and put vents in the bottoms of the channels themselfs, thus creating two 'air scoops' that run the entire length of the car, and right into the doghouse. I understand that the heater channels provide a lot of the structural support of the car, but with the doors welded up, will they be as needed? if so what could be done to ensure that this doesn't damage the integrety of them. It would just be the bottom of the channels and probably a vent only every 6 inches. let me know what you guys think, and thanks for your time, and entertaining my thoughts. :D |

| My first reaction is that the heater channels are too small to flow much air. Now if you could figure out a way to run the air thru the tunnel.... |
