t1 specs...t1-t3 made of magnesium

36 hp case has built in gen stand 1954-59

40 hp 1192cc 1961-65
adds 4th main bearing at pulley end of crank
also referred to as a 1200
no insert cam beaings...run on case bores
has 6mm oil pump studs vs 1500 and 1600 8mm studs
number codes only

50 hp 1300cc used in 1966
.200 larger stroke than 40 hp
FO letter code giveaway
easily changes into 1500 or 1600

53 hp 1500 is 1493cc
t1 1967-69
t2 1962-65
look for H letter code
Bastard (another stroked 40hp rated at 51, 53 qnd 66 hp 1493cc look for O code) marked like 40hp with numbers not letters. Inherited worn cam bores like 40hp (no insert cam bearings).
used in t2 1963-65
used in t3 1962-65

1600 final t1-t3 motor 1584cc
t3 1966-73
t2 1968-71
t1 1969-79
ports through 1970 single
1971-on dual port

Single vs dual relief identified by extra valve by flywheel

1700, 1800, 2000
t4 either bus or 914
1800 only 1973-74 3mm larger bore than 1700
t4 fan on end of crank
alluminum case
spin on oil filter
all t4s have alternators

73 up all included case saver steel inserts and deep stud

Hope this helps

on 65 cam bearings were added

on 65 they added a "D" prefix, and it lasted in production up until the early 90s (not sold in the US of course, but we the rest of the world did get 1200 after 65)

that's not true, the early 1500s in the earliest type 3s and 1500 buses were more or less stroked 40hps...but a H case DOES have insert cam bearings, just as all post-65 engines

just to add, H0 and B0 cases are not the best in terms of longevity, specially when it comes to performance engines, dual port engines recieved a much better quality alloy.

hope this clarifies this a bit
