Well, this blows.

Quote: Woodstock VW Reunion 2004 - New Paltz, NY - Show Cancelled for 2004 due to breach of contract
by the management of the Ulster County Fairgrounds.

The Club that runs this show (H.A.M.S.)
have started looking now for a new site for the 2005 Show.

Unfortunately, it's true Rob. I'm on the show staff & I'm in charge of sending out propaganda for the event every year, like the fliers that wind up in goodie bags at all the other events. Here's the quick & easy version of what happened this year......I won't even delve into the mess they handed us three days before the show last year.

Days after the 2003 show, our show chairman submitted the request for use of the field on the weekend of the 12th of September this year. They don't even start booking until October, so we should have been 'golden.' We knew last year that we could get our event bumped by an Ulster County-based group, as we are not one, and they get preferential treatment. In March I received the verbal OK that our date was good, and that the printed version would follow. At that point, the HAMS club paid out about $250 in printing & postage fees to get our fliers done & out. The first week of June, we got a letter stating that the field was not available for us, "due to a prior committment."

They offered us two possible make-up dates, but there is no time to put it together between now & then; those two dates also conflict with other events, so we decided to cut our losses & suspend the show for 2004. We are currently scouting a new location, and are open to suggestions. We have a lead on one in Montgomery NY, and it may prove fruitful.

As a Samba user, albeit primarily a 'lurker,' I will keep everyone here informed how the 2005 show is coming along. We have very high hopes that we can put the troubles in Ulster County behind us, and make the show better than ever. Stay tuned....... 8)

that's too bad, i always liked that show. it's usually a perfect day and a great medium distance drive for me, about 225 miles.

Plasticman,
Good luck for the 2005 show. I'll be there.
The last one was great. More split buses than any other show in the Northeast that I've been to. Unfortunately, UZI and I tried to get two more splitties to the show last year, and both of them blew out their generator bearings. Ended up taking the Suburban.

Here's a photo of me trying to get UZI's OG paint doubledoor kombi to the show. Ended up flagging down a VW vendor on his way to the show and buying a new 6V generator. We got it running, but had some corroded connectors fooling us into thinking the charging system was shot. So we went back and got the other bus, and lo and behold, it chewed up its generator as well. By the time we got that fixed enough to drive home, it was 2:30am, so we took the American Iron to the show.

Good times....

Same here; it's always nice to put faces with the IDs. The NH show was a real good time this year, mainly due to it being a lot cooler day than last year.

Thanks for all the positivity regarding the Woodstock show, everyone. We will do our best to make the 2005 show a good one.....hell, we've got over a year to put it together. :D
