I dont know if I should do this undermy breath or not...

I've opened forums specifically for the Type 3 at http://www.Type3Talk.com

Take a look and tell me what you think.... As long as its nice :)

looks cool, and it looks like it organized

looks good, nice to see another site dedicated to type 3

Air_Cooled_Nut Fri Jun 25, 2004 9:11 am

Looks nice. Yours is the fourth Type III forum I know of (I'm sure there are a couple more out there). The trouble is, the more forums there are the more diluted (weaker) the content and help. The www.vwtype3.org email list is THE source for T3 info. The Samba would be my second choice...and even then I would highly recommend people get on the email list.

So many times I've seen people try to establish a 'new' forum (in a variety of topics, not just T3's) only to have it die because the original forum was already established. Bragging rights may be nice but ya have to be the first otherwise everything else is simply a spin-off or duplication of effort.

I see that you are using the VW symbol with no legal disclaimer or copyright symbol...better hope VWoA lawyers don't find your site :!:

Well, Matt, I joined your forum (under the moniker "Mr. Bubblehead", in honor of my tattoo). Looks like it will be well organized & I'll contribute what I can. Hopefully others will, too. I would do something about that logo, though, as VWoA will drop the hurt hammer down on ya as soon as they see it.

The site looks good. I do have to agree with Toby though, there are a few type3 sites out there, some (like this one) are part of a larger site, but that's ok, since we're normally in the minority anyway. First and formost, I'm a member on the type3 mailing list ( www.vwtype3.org ). I'm also a member of STF (Shop Talk Forums), as we needed some members there to keep it going. I've helped a few out there, and that is all that counted. 8) Then I came here, and I've helped a few more people out. I'm on these sites due to others needing help, and spreading the word about type3s. I'm also a member of www.VolksRods.com , as I need my non-normal fix too. Just some food for thought.

P.S. I've book marked your site, and I'll hang on to it for a while and see how it goes.

R.Rabbit Sat Jun 26, 2004 9:32 am

@ Bob  non-normal  Never, say it isn't so.

Bobnotch Sat Jun 26, 2004 11:04 am

Well there is a lot of good info there, and I like the low buck approach most everyone on the site uses. I think that was my main reason for actually joining Volks Rodders, was that they build rather than buy! 8) They're also not affraid to cut ANYTHING up either. My other reason for joining is that having a topless type3 doesn't fit in any of the "normal" type3 sites or forums, and when you start talking about them, the purists start complaining.

Not pee on the parade but between the list and this forum I dont have any desire to help 3 other forums along. Why do we need so many? Alot of us do realise the clout of both sites and are here because the content is not diluted. I think its silly to go to a third or fourth site to answer more of the same stuff. I do think that information is lacking but its the hands on project pages that help the most with technical description and pics. For the instant tech answers, people should be directed to the list or one maybe two forums. I do on the other hand realise some of these "other" forums dont care about the size and or content, like a big club thang to chat. But for correct T3 related answers, The T3 list for lates, The Samba forum for earlies. My 2 cents.

I joined just for the hell of it... the site is very easy to use and it has all kinds of "extra" stuff and statistics for the forum itself... I wish the samba had that format I didn't notice anybody log-on so it made me sad to see perfectly good site on it's way probably out... you all know, right? I'm not a pesimist but most people are posting here. Every single post on that forum was from mr. bubblehead. I wish I had the time and expertise to post more stuff in both sites... I'll keep loging here and type 3 talk

Well I was on the list first, but some of the "Darksiders" there suggested going to STF to discuss the non-stock stuff. I joined in that group about 6 months to a year before coming here (the Samba). I came here after some posters were cross linking posts between the 2 sites, and that made it difficult to follow along. At the time I came here, it was kinda quiet on both forums. Since I own both "late" and "early" cars, I frequent both places for info. Also when I came here, some of the posts were about items we had already discussed on STF, so it was easier to give someone some help with their problem.
I actually like Volks Rods because we are more like one big disfunctional family there, doing similar things to our cars, and having fun doing it. I found building the first Roadster (my son's car) very enjoyable since I didn't have to worry about anything being correct for it's year, we could just use what we had laying around, and make it work. That was so refreshing, that I decided to build the 2nd Roadster (my 2 seater), and have the same fun building it. The scarry part is how many correct for it's year parts I had laying around to use on it. Granted, I also deviated from "stock" in places (like adding a GM tilt column  or cutting off the roof 8) ), but I also used a lot of stock parts during the build up. It started out as a sweep the garage floor, and back yard clean up (both cars), and just snow balled into something else, and they took on a life of their own. I still have some parts out back that I need to do something with, but they'll probably be used as repair parts for the "stock" cars that I own.

Thanks Martin, I really appreciate ALL you've done. :D We need more type3 owners on the Volks Rods forum too, as the bug owners out number us by a lot. There are a few of us there though, and our numbers are slowly increasing. :D We don't plan on taking over, but we'd like to get the word out that other VWs can be modified too, not just bugs. There are some pretty good metal fabricators there, and they're willing to photograph their build ups (much like Jason's Samba gallery build up 8) ), showing techniques, or help anyone with some fabricating, or just a better way of doing a repair. There are also some good pin stripers there too, willing to show some techniques as well. We're a very diversified group there.

What statistics and stuff are you talking about? I don't see anything really different in format or additional features.

vujade Sun Jun 27, 2004 9:58 am

Everett,

I think he's talking about the statistics at the bottom of the page of the new forum that tell you who's online, how many people are online or have been online that day.

EverettB Sun Jun 27, 2004 10:35 am

This Forum has stats like that too, scroll down to the bottom of the main Forums page

WOW, you need to talk to your shipper, as I got my package today. The "extra gift" is going to Hershey (to the INVASION) with me too! 8) Very COOL! Thanks!! I'll have to start figuring out what else I need from you and place another order soon. :D Thanks again.
