Okay so my engine is a 1904cc engine with Kads, 044 mags, Engle 110. I was talking today with the owner of a reputable Bug shop. (they've built three record holdin engines) and I was talking to him about squeezing some performance out of my motor. I was thinking about what a merged header could do for me. He asked me some questions and flipped out when I told him the Compression ratio was about 7:1 he said that that's pretty low and that I should raise the compression and doing this would not harm my engine but actually help it run better? Any opinions?

He's right, if your gona drive it daily id go with about a 8 or 8.5 to 1 that will give you the performance boost your looking for.

I have been told by my engine builder to stay around 8 to 1 i had my 2110 built 8.5 to 1 thats the most he and me friends recommend to help it stay running cool..

Im in the process of building a 1914 with 9 to 1 comprssion, with a web 110. Im going to use this motor for daily driving, and to have a little fun at the strip

hmm interesting, christammizoie@cox.net you mentioned runnign a higher compression to make the engine run cooler? I always thought a higher compression made the engine run hotter. Well then lemme' know what some more of you dudes think

Too low will a CR will run hot and too high a CR will run hot, you need to determione the type of driving you are going to do and set the CR with that in mind. My 1904 is set at 8:1 and it is still a little low, I would go with 8.5:1 or 9:1 if I were to do it again. I am currently building a 2332 and am going to set the CR somewhere between 9:1 and 9.5:1 for premium pump gas.

Go at least 8-8.5:1. My 2 liter, drive anywhere engine is at 8.5:1 and I only feed it 87 octane. If you were willing to use higher octane, you could probably go a bit higher.

Yes what i meant the higher the comp the hotter it will run sorry for confusion all the people i know say for driving on street not over 8.5 to 1.. mines just a weekend cruiser for the car shows but if you get stuck in traffic you coild get hot if you run over that.. and i run super unleaded the higher octane the better i have been told.. :D

I have always run higher than 9.0:1 for the street. Just gotta make sure that you are getting enough cooling. I have decklid standoffs, fan assisted cooler and run octane booster on really hot days (100+) as a precaution to keep those pingy thingies away. I had 73k miles on my last 2275 and that was 9.6:1.

9.6:1  lordie.... now of course for me to get this added compression I do have to pay money, which of course I lack at the moment. So once I get stuff that I need done I'll take a looksie at this.

Actually, unless you have a high enough compression ratio running very high octane fuel will make the motor run like crap, and by the same token a high compression engine will ping on too low of an octane. The higher octane fuels burn slower than the low octane ones. |
