I usually try to hit up the sales when i get a chance, A few months ago i stopped by an estate sale. i ended up buying 2 craftsman work benches loaded with "unknown" mixed up stuff. Tools, papers, equipment, whatever. I just wanted the benches.
Found tons of tools scattered in all the drawers, but the coolest part was there was a bus church key and just the lock mechanism from a bus gas door flap. After going thru the stuff completely i think the guy was a woodworker and was going to use the key and latch for a birdhouse door. The fake dove blue dove for the birdhouse was in there as well.
went back and questioned the estate sale guy down. said his dad wasnt into anything VW at all. Bummer |

| Yeah im in to that sort of thing, i work part time at a collectable store in town. its cool becuase i have dibs on all petrol and car related stuff that he gets. so far i have picked up a good cond 1961 bettle manual, and a lot of practical moterist. also a couple of old matchbox toys. I recently went to a closing down sale of an antique sale loaded my car up with all kinds of older stuff that i never would have bought but i listed it on Trademe at $1 rserve and it has made me the money for my 62 in a weeks time. |

Let me know if you run across any OLD records- Heavy shellac "78s", thick Edison discs, or cylinder records. Also into outside horn phonographs, as well as "art deco" or Eames- era radio phonographs. The records I collect are the hard to find Jazz and Blues from the 1920s and early 1930s. I have over 10,000 of 'em in my collection, and I'm always buying and selling on eBay as 'gramophone-georg'. I'll pay a finder's fee for the right mdse. in good condition.
OH, and if anyone comes in with an early Type 3 dash with no splits... PM me! :D |

I love garage sales, I usually look for good 78's, old comics, books, anything. I recently bought a "little iodine" comic from the early 50's (in horrible shape unfortunately) a german Tom and Jerry comic from the late 50's, a Roto-Broiler 400 from the 50's in perfect shape, a small accordian (very old, not sure how old though), a few books on trees and animals (it's funny to see how they drew dinosaurs a few decades ago) and a T-shirt that says "If getting older is better, I must be magnificant".
Basically if I have the money I'll buy whatever I think is cool. I collect comics too, but that's a different story. |

Eames era, tell us a time frame, Eames didn't live for only a few years. |

| I go garage saling from time to time. You never know what you can find. The same is true for antique stores. I have found some VW items that I didn't have before. One other place I love going is flea markets. Man, the treasures you will find! :) |

Back in the 1980's my mom somehow "inherited" an old record player and a TON of 78's that are like dinner plates. They are thick and only grooved on one side. They are all big band, swing, and old jazz. Even though I was a teen back then I loved big band, and especially listening to those old records. I told her not too long ago that I wanted that record player and the discs. I'd love to spend a rainy weekend going through them and playing them. That's original "Old Skule Pimpin" music to me :D |

I worked at one of the best Antique Auctions in florida.
I got to see a ton of nice stuff. Tiffanny Jewerly and lamps, Handel lamps, we sold 2 Belter chairs but I didnt get to see them. lots of Empire and Victorian. Sold a Civil war era victorian marble top dresser with tall mirror with a total height of 14ft., a Meeks carved top couch, a 1930 Wulitzer Harp, way old Roseville and Hull pottery, unbelevable ornate womens jewelry. I got 84 issues of Foerign car guides in NOS condition, NOS Ghia turn signals, old European touris guides from the 50s , A 1938 world fair automotive brochure , 7-up cooler and 3 coke coolers.
I miss working there , it was a blast. |

| Turkis bus- Right on Eames. Eames era is approx 1945- 1965 overall, the machines I prefer are the 1945-1950 ones. I once had an Eames- era Zenith radio- phono- TV console with a BEAUTIFUL waterfall design and curved front doors. Had an AM- Shortwave- Armstrong System (soon after to be known as FM) Radio with a 78/ 33 RPM deco record changer and a 16" ROUND TV with Channel 1! Can't beat the sound on those tube type oldies with the big- ass speaker. |

I collect a bit. I'm mostly into ACLs or Applied Color Label soda bottles, I have about 300 or so. I have practically every rendition of the Sundrop(NC soda) shape and size and I have a Gran Cru(peach soda) that I used to drink as a kid. But my babies are 2 pristine Caravan Dry Ginger Ales bottled by Cheerwine back in the day and 2 pristine Catawba Valley
Beverages of different shapes and sizes bottled locally in Newton NC that I guarantee NOONE in the state of NC has in one collection.
Most all sodas are regional but I do have many from other states and regions. I also have some milk bottles and recently was given an old brown Clorox bottle by a co-worker, lid and all.
I also collect old books, magazines, locks and even a couple of suitcases. And I too have some old 78s laying around that I'll check out and if nothing interests me tram I'll let you know.
I think my baby in print is a copy of the Charlotte Observer with the front page headline that the Russians had completed a soft landing(craft only) on the Moon which was the first ever landing on the Moon of any kind.
Man I love nostalgia. |
