im getting ready to paint my car and i havent really gotten a straight answer on a few things. first, if i sand it down to bare metal what are the stages of sandpaper grit i use. second, do you do the body work THEN the etching primer, or primer then body work then more primer. also if i get it down to bare metal, what are the rules about handling it and how long can it sit there with no primer. any help would be great

I`m kinda new to Samba too, but usually when a question is asked ( and it`s not just stupid) and you get no reply. you might try a search in this forum to see if topic has been answered before. What I`ve done in the past, sand down to metal, apply body filler then metal etching, as far as sanding stages it depends on type of paint or primer being used. Good Luck. 8)

All the body work first.
You should prime it with 2k epoxy very soon after the final sanding - Days, not weeks.
Start with 80 grit and work up to finer. 220 should be OK to finish metal
Before you paint, you should wipe down the entire car. I use lacpuer thinner. Wear gloves and don't tough any of it with bare hands until it is primered. Most people are telling me to skip the etching primer and go straight to a 2 part epoxy. That will give you a waterproof job and let you wait some time before finish painting. If you do wait more than about 3 days, you will have to scuff it before you apply paint.
