Yesterday down in Burbank, I had the good fortune to come across a couple of 356 coupes in traffic.
Traffic was running a nice 75-80 and I came up on each car on their right side and lowered my Volvo's window for a listen.
Both were spinning at least 4 grand I'd say.
One had a familiar volkski tone to the exhaust, but the other had a WONDERFUL twang to it like some 911s have. Not like the BLAAT of highly tuned Type I motors.
It had a single outlet exhaust on the driver's side similar to a 911.
It sounded GREAT. I'd LOVE to get that sound.
The car had no unusual markings and appeared stock. Now assuming somebody didn't actually stuff a 911 motor in it (I've never heard of this) and it wasn't a 4-cam motor (possible, but unlikely even in Burbank) what motor was it and why does it sound so good? What was the hottest pushrod motor put into 356s, and why did it sound so damn good? |

| I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the 356 motor had bigger cranks and smaller pistons than a bug. Add dual carbs for better flow, a better exaust, and you get the idea |
